Over the last few years, I have worked on a large variety of projects for both educational and professional purposes. The following samples are only a small selection of the work I have done. Click the links to view each project.
Using Microsoft Outlook to Manage Appointments
When I worked as a phone pro at Avalanche Roofing & Exteriors, my main duty was to schedule appointments. When I first started, this process consisted of me writing down the customer's information on a notepad, transferring it to an appointment book, and then entering it into our customer database. After learning that the database couldn't replicate our paper-based scheduling system, I designed my own using Microsoft Outlook. I then wrote up this tutorial and trained the office staff on the new system. Since this system became fully implemented at the end of June, we have seen a marked decrease in data entry errors from all staff members.
Notes for Baby
I completed this project shortly before I left Villa Kids. At Villa Kids, I spent the majority of mornings in the baby room, which caters to infants ages six weeks to two years old. One of the particular struggles I recognized in this room is the communication gap between the baby room staff and the parents of the children within our care. In an effort to bridge that gap, I pitched the idea of creating a simple, fill-in-the-blank worksheet that we can send home with each child at the end of his or her visit. To save on paper, four worksheets print per page.
Rocky Ridge Elementary School Safety Manual
I created the RRES Safety Manual in the summer of 2010. The previous manual was a jumble of lose-leaf papers, both handwritten and typed. It also lacked any apparent organization. In a week's time, I turned it into what it is today: a 122-page Publisher document that is organized and formatted to be reader-friendly in the event of a crisis. Each faculty member has a copy of this manual in his or her classroom. My manual was considered so successful that it is now used as the template for all other schools within the Hoover City district.
Markham's Housewife: Female Veterinarian Extraordinaire
My senior seminar focused on women and medicine in sixteenth and seventeenth-century England. The entire course was built around a research project. For my paper, I set out to establish the Early Modern woman as an experienced, knowledgeable veterinary practitioner. To do this, I sifted through countless hand-written manuscripts in an effort to find medical remedies for common ailments in cattle. I also produced an annotated bibliography to accompany my paper, and it is located at the end of the document. Forever in My Heart Forms
While working at Fountain of Youth, I was granted permission to take charge of a new product line within the store. I handled everything from organizing the display to placing orders with the vendor. Within a month, the Forever in My Heart product line became our best seller, and it continued that way for the duration of my employment. One of the challenges I found with this line, however, was the product catalog was not very user-friendly when it came to taking inventory. As a result, I crafted a spreadsheet in Excel that mirrored the display case for the charms. To take inventory, all I then had to do was count the charms and fill in the blanks. I also created a corresponding order form that I could fill out and fax to the vendor.
